The call for applications for grants for the certification of suppliers to the security and defence sector closes in May

The call for applications for grants for the certification of suppliers to the security and defence sector closes in May

The Regional Government of Galicia, through the Regional Ministry of Economy and Industry, has opened the call for applications for grants to help Galician companies position themselves as suppliers in the field of security and defence. This line of support, with a budget of €1.5 million, is aimed at strengthening the presence of Galician businesses in these strategic sectors.

The deadline for submitting applications is 13 May at 2 p.m., or until the available credit has been exhausted. Applications must be submitted electronically using procedure IN519G.

Facilitating access to the defence and security supply chain

The call for proposals aims to support Galician companies in implementing key actions to position themselves in the fields of defence and security. Specifically, it funds actions such as:

  • The first entry in the Register of Companies of the Directorate-General for Armament and Material (DGAM).

  • The preparation of technical proposals to participate in national or European defence tenders.

  • Technical approval of systems and products through trials and tests in accredited laboratories.

  • Processing security clearances and authorisations with the CNI, both for companies (HSEM) and establishments (HSES).

  • The implementation of quality management systems in accordance with PECAL/AQAP standards, including consultancy and certification.

The ultimate goal is to prepare Galician companies to advance or diversify into becoming suppliers of goods and services in the security and defence sectors, facilitating their integration into strategic industrial programmes.

Up to €75,000 per beneficiary

The aid is granted on a non-competitive basis and covers up to 80% of the eligible amount, with a maximum of €75,000 per beneficiary. The minimum budget required per action is €3,000.

Eligible items include specialist advisory and consultancy services, technical assistance, laboratory testing and trials, audits and certifications in specific standards, compulsory training and public fees.

In addition, an advance payment of up to 25% of the grant awarded may be requested, subject to the provision of a guarantee. Expenditure may be incurred until November 2026 or October 2027, depending on the corresponding year.

Private companies with legal personality that carry out economic activity and have a place of work in Galicia may benefit, provided that they take the necessary steps to diversify into defence and security through the required certifications, approvals or authorisations.

Call for proposals aligned with the 2025-2030 Strategy

This aid is part of the Strategic Initiative for Security, Defence and Aerospace 2025-2030, which seeks to consolidate these sectors as drivers of economic growth, skilled job creation and industrial strengthening in Galicia.

In this context, the 2026 Guide to Certifications in Security, Defence and Aerospace becomes a key complementary tool. The document provides an understanding of the role of certifications in the different links of the value chain and facilitates strategic planning for companies wishing to benefit from IN519G aid, offering a clear overview of requirements, standards and relationships between regulations.

Strategic opportunity for the BFAero ecosystem

For start-ups and companies linked to Business Factory Aero (BFAero), this call represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen their competitive positioning and advance in certification and approval processes that are essential in highly technologically demanding sectors.

The launch of the IN519G grant and the availability of tools such as the Certification Guide thus consolidate a favourable environment for the Galician ecosystem to continue growing and positioning itself as a benchmark in security, defence and aerospace.

The Xunta plans to convene strategic partners in security, defence and aerospace at the end of the year to define investments

The Xunta plans to convene strategic partners in security, defence and aerospace at the end of the year to define investments

The Regional Minister of Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, announced during the conference ‘Galicia’s strategic dialogue with the aerospace, security and defence sectors’, the Xunta’s intention to carry out the first call for proposals by the end of 2025, which will define which companies and technology centres will work together to promote this industry, as well as the investment programmes to be implemented over the next five years.

Lorenzana closed a meeting with companies and entities linked to these sectors, to whom he presented the strategy approved by the Xunta to open a process of strategic dialogue, with the aim of finding out first-hand the real needs in the short, medium and long term in order to adapt the support and investment instruments and thus obtain the best results to promote a security and defence industry in the Community that also includes the aerospace sector.

Industrial potential

The Regional Minister pointed out that the aim is to mobilise all of Galicia’s industrial and technological potential in the field of defence and dual application technologies and to generate a significant demand for products, systems and services, in line with the priorities set by Europe. ‘What the European Commission is asking of governments and administrations is that we work to generate a strong industrial base around the defence sector, which must be considered not as a productive expense but as a strategic investment,’ she said.

In this regard, he stressed that previous analyses carried out for the development of this strategy concluded that Galicia has a high capacity for the manufacture of 75% of the types of components and services required, ‘which gives an idea of the opportunities that our companies will have’, she said.

183M€ in five years

To this end, he specified that 183 million euros will be allocated over the next five years with the forecast of mobilising up to 900 million euros, and with the aim of attracting companies from other strategic areas such as the naval, automotive, metal or ICT to these segments of activity and to materialise new industrial investments.

In terms of financing, a Dual Technologies Investment Fund will be activated in XesGalicia (€40m) to support projects and, within the Igape’s Economic Office, a specific area of business advice will be created.

Lorenzana concluded by encouraging companies and knowledge centres to actively participate. ‘We believe that Galicia is really well positioned to be a target for attracting investment in this sector,’ he stressed.
